Hey y'all,

Can't believe it's been over a year since my last journal entry, and even this one's gonna be brief!

Just wanted to get the word out there that I'm one of the comic illustrators on Panini Comics' new TMNT magazine. I could only do the intro page on Issue 1 for scheduling reasons, but I'm doing Issues 2 and 3 for sure (I'm about halfway through Issue 3!)

The first issue of the magazine is out now, with Issue 2, my first issue, out on May 30th.

Needless to say, I'm very excited!

Just a quick update to let everyone know where I'm going to be over the next month or so, signing and sketching!

Next Saturday, Free Comic Book Day, I'll be in Red Sun Collectables in Chelmsford. Lovely big comic shop with awesome staff. If you're anywhere near local and haven't checked it out, you should!

After that it'll be Kapow Comic Con on May 18th - 19th.

Then it'll be MCM EXPO at the Excel on May 25th - 27th.

Hope to see some of you at one (or all!) of those!

The challenge:

Create a sketch of an original character or concept and and post it on your blog Thurday 1st March. It should be a concept completely owned by the artist (or co-owned with the writer/collaborators permission to post).

Why? A number of reasons:

1. A lot of reader and creator focus is on characters owned by larger corporations. Let's bring a little spotlight on creating brand new, creator owned concepts.
2. Bringing a little awareness to the business side of co-creating original content. Take a look at Jeff Parker's article and follow up comments on the subject. Co-creators can take this opportunity as a little trial run, just make sure to have a mutual agreement in advance.
3. Fun! A few creators discussed the idea on Twitter and thought it was a great opportunity to create something entirely new, while bringing attention to these sketches.

The details:

1. Create an sketch of a new character/character you own. We're doing this primarily to get our imaginations running, so a concept specifically created for Creator Owned Day is probably ideal. It should NOT be a character owned by either a company eg. Marvel's Wolverine, OR owned by other creators e.g. Todd McFarlane's Spawn. It also shouldn't take distinct features from characters owned by others e.g. Wolverspawn You must own the character.
2. Post it on your blog, or Facebook, Twitter etc.
3. Share your post using the Twitter hashtag #CreatorOwnedDay.
3. Help us spread the word by retweeting your favourite new characters.

Sound like fun? Let's do it!

Hey everybody,

This journal post is just by way of clarification, and isn't meant to cause offence to anyone.

I'm a professional artist. I earn the money I need to pay my mortgage and feed myself by drawing comics, designing toys, taking commissions, sketching for people at conventions and selling my self-published comic books. Basically, using the skills I've trained hard for to make a living.

I don't design, illustrate or enhance anything for FREE. I don't do art trades or requests. I can't afford to. I'm EXTREMELY busy, and when I do pack up work for the day, I use that time to chill out to avoid burning out.

I wouldn't dream of going into McDonalds and asking for a free burger, nor do I get my feet out to show a Podiatrist friend of mine. I don't expect a free ride on a bus.

Please extend myself and other professional artists the same courtesy; we may be highly visible, we put our work out there for a variety of reasons; to create an accessible portfolio, to enhance exposure or to just be a part of a like-minded community.

What we don't do is work for free. We'd die of starvation.

To those of you who already appreciate this and respect it, thank you very much. To those who don't, take heed.

We had the Tought Bubble convention at the weekend, with Tinpot Hobo 2 being brought to the hotel by the new printer, UKCOMICS. Honestly I was like a little kid at Christmas when I opened the box of brand new comics!

Thanks to the switch to a new printer Tinpot Hobo now boasts a gorgeous cardstock cover and glossy, heavier interior pages. All Full-colour throughout. This issue has 22 pages of comic strip, as well as two character profiles; Captain Samantha Riley and Inspector Ganto.

All that and the cover price of £3.50 remains the same!

To order your copy, wander on over to www.tinpothobo.com/comics.html

Or, if you prefer to read the PDF download for the tiny sum of $1.99, head on over to www.tinpothobo.com/downloads.h…

The lovely chaps at www.goodcomicbooks.com swung by the table at Kapow and picked up a copy of Tinpot Hobo. Then, bless 'em, gave it a glowing review on their podcast.

Now they've gone one step further and interviewed me. I want to thank them for their unfailing support, first off, and provide all of you Hobo-ites with the link to the interview...

Well, this weekend saw the inaugural (love that word) Kapow Comic Con in London, and what a weekend it was! I have it on good authority that the show was awesome. What I saw was indeed brilliant. For the most part, though, I had my head down, feverishly sketching away like a crazy person. Literally, I started drawing 5 minutes after the door opened on Saturday, had to get up at 4.30 on Sunday to get through Saturday's backlog, then *only just* finished as the doors closed on Sunday!

It was, without a doubt, my most successful convention to date; sold truckloads of Tinpot Hobo, worked my arse off non-stop (which I always love!) and was generally made to feel like a rock star!

So I just wanna thank all of you who were there and stopped by to grab a comic book or a sketch, or just to say hi. It was truly a marvellous weekend and you're all fantastic!

Now, anyone who came to the stand looking for a sketch from about halfway through Sunday didn't get one as there was just too much demand and I couldn't get through it all. So, I'm opening up sketch commissions for ONE WEEK ONLY. That means that come the end of next Monday, I won't be accepting any more.

This is open to everyone, not just Kapow attendees, obviously, but do bear in mind that I'm at Wizard World Big Apple in September if you're over that way and want to get one in person!

So, pricing info is as follows....

Pencil Head Sketch jackademus.deviantart.com/art/… - £5

Ink + Marker Head Sketch jackademus.deviantart.com/art/… - £10

Ink + Marker Bust  jackademus.deviantart.com/art/… - £30

Postage will be £2 to the UK, £5 to anywhere else in the world, and if it comes to less I'll refund you on Paypal (it will take into account cost of packing too though!)

If anyone wants the amounts in a different currency, yuor best bet is to convert it on www.xe.com/ucc

Lastly, Paypal address is jack@jackademus.com

Hey everyone,

Well, we're 5 days away from Kapow Comic Con, which will be the official launch of Tinpot Hobo, but today is the actual day the book goes on sale!

If anyone wants a copy, you can pick up the print version here:

indyplanet.com/store/product_i…

Or the PDF Download version is here:

The iPad/iPhone version is still in the works, but will be available soon. The merchandise, like the T-Shirts and Art book, will go on sale after the weekend.

Hey guys,

Bit of an early heads up, but I thought I'd put it out there; I'm a guest at this year's aforementioned Con. Obviously I'll post more info closer to the event, but as I've had shedloads of emails and messages asking if I'm attending any US Cons this year, the answer is now "yes, and it'll be this one!" :D

Hope to see some of ya there!

Heya folks,

Just a quick entry to let you all know that the Tinpot Hobo website is up: www.tinpothobo.com

There's a fair bit of info in terms of characters, ships and some of the places of note in the galaxy, as well as a link through to the online store, where stuff is up for preorder.

The site will be updated as events occur in the story, so there'll be tons more to come as it all unfolds!

So I'm launching my creator-owned book, Tinpot Hobo, at the Kapow Comic Con on the 9th of April. I've had a load of messages from you little tinkers Stateside, asking how you can get ahold of a copy.

Well, it'll be available at Indyplanet.com and Comicsmonkey.com, but I'll also be taking preorders for those of you who want any signed copies. If that's the case, it'll be £7 GBP per copy (that's the £3.50 cover price and enough to cover the postage out to ya.)

There'll also be a PDF download for substantially cheaper than that, and *possibly* an Ipad/Iphone version, we're still working on that!

Along with the comic, we're releasing an art book which will showcase Adam's AMAZING ship designs. For the book, the ships will be fully 3-D rendered as opposed to the cel-shaded look they have in the comic. Added to that there's the T-shirt, an exact replica of the one Darrius Kyde wears that says "Born to Fly" in Universal Standard (our alien language).

All of the preorder/price/payment info will go up as soon as Issue 1 comes back from the printers, which should be in the next week or so.

Meanwhile, I'm taking commissions for a very limited time, as I've got a little bit of space in my schedule...

Per character:

Line art: $150.00
colours: $100.00

If you want to commission me, the piece will be for your personal, private use, but will be shown on my DA/website/etc.

Well, I've had a fair few messages since I uploaded the "Catch Heroes" cover, most of which are asking how people can get ahold of it.

It's out now, and your best bet, should you want to buy it, is Amazon. The direct link to the French site is...

I order books from them, and they're brilliant. Very quick!

If you're in the States though, you might want to go through Amazon.com.

OK, so technically I'm civil partenershipped as my spouse is a guy, but the point is it's all legal. How this relates to DA is that all the time I've spent on the wedding for the last 14 months can now be used creating more art (best laid plans...) so hopefully I'll be submitting more to this very page, and putting my head above the radar more often!

Hey guys.

Y'know, I can't believe it was November when I last posted a piece of work up here. It's not that I don't have anything to show; it's all so bloody secret!

I'm working on Zoovolution, which some of you may remember will be coming out of an American publisher later this year. So that's taking up a lot of my time, but aside from that I'm doing a bunch of toy design, under strict NDA.

Once Zoovolution is done, I'm hoping I'll get a bit of time to sit down and develop some of my own stuff again, but I wouldn't lay money on that.

More likely I'll be signing an NDA for a new project. D'Oh!!!

Hey guys,

This is just a quick call out to you all.

I'm doing an 8-mile walk on Sunday the 18th of January. Not a huge walk, I know, but my Mum asked me if I wanted to get involved, and I'm a sucker for a good cause.

So, if anyone out there wants to sponsor me, that would be absolutely awesome. You can donate here:

www.justgiving.com/jackademus

Any tiny little bit you can spare would be just fantastic.

Thanks, guys.
