You know...the original designs for those characters were a ripp off of Skottie Young's artwork.
I worked on the first line of toys and the sketches we were sent were tracings from his human torch comics. Noone would have noticed if I hadn't been reading those very comics the afternoon the project arrived from Hasbro
the originals were just some really bad tracings. I was shocked at how blatent they were...but never mind they have come out well in the end.
I worked on the original King figure way back when he was called Minotaur and Payne was still going to be Dr X.
I don't know if you've seen any of the original models or anything but Minotaur originally had a huge afro and american football shirt and the prototype even had a 9carot gold chain.
The Water guy (Shark is it?) was originally called kyribdis and I think Hawk was Pegasis or something. all the characters were named after greek myths etc.
Even way back then I pretty much guessed what the good guy/bad guy team structure would be like. and correctly predicted the female team member and geek side kick type guy.
Fun project which was one of my last at that modelmaking company.
hey jack!~!whoa, man, its great to see you back on the boards..GREAT piece!*faves*this is vintage jackademus for sure()how's all of this coming along anyway? from your journal, it seems like A.T.O.M. has got your hands full. not that its a bad thing, mind you! steady work is a beautiful thing..so what else is new with you tho?OH, and could you point me in the direction of where i can nab up some artwork of yours that doesn't necessarily get to the states?(i saw a cool action sequence you did with this HUGE traffic scene-a motorcycle crashes and a football team gets out to inflict some road rage...etc.-whats that book?*scratches head*)
anyway, i hope you are doing great man, you are still one of the best, bro, and you haven't even hit your stride yet!
I like this train of thought "Oh! A big rock guy eh? Well then I think I'll take a FRIGGIN' BITE OUT OF HIM!" Dude must have some strong chompers. I also like the way that you've conveyed (maybe unintentionally) a sense of smell in this picture. I can't imagine anything with glowing green goo pouring from its mouth to smell any kind of good. He looks like a sewer monster. Anyhoo, well done!
Thanks, dude! That's the great hing with a character like Hawk (and Shark too!), their personalities are really cartoony too, so you can just pretty much do what you want with them. S'why I love 'em both!
thats awesome.is this the new book you are workin on.if so can you give a little insight on it.cause if thats the issue ten cover, what issue are you on.and maybe when is it hittin stores.either way great work!
